About the event
Welcome to Joe Himali's History Salon, a gathering for people who are passionate about the history, architecture, and built environment of the Washington Metropolitan Area.
This salon will be held at Brooks Mansion, one of the most storied and resilient landmarks in all of Washington, DC. Built in the late 1830s by Colonel Jehiel Brooks, a War of 1812 veteran and prominent figure in early Washington society, the mansion sits at the very heart of the Brookland neighborhood he created. A superb example of Greek Revival architecture, the building survived plans for demolition by WMATA in the 1970s, earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, and today serves as the headquarters of DCTV. It is the largest historic landmark in Ward 5, and it is the perfect setting for an afternoon devoted to history.
Doors open at 11:15 am, with the program beginning promptly at…
