About the event
Kalorama may have started out as farmland, but it quickly became one of Washington’s most fascinating neighborhoods . . . a hillside retreat that drew in presidents, power players, and a few spies along the way. Since diplomat Joel Barlow built his grand estate here in 1807, Kalorama has been home to more U.S. presidents than anywhere else besides the White House itself. Today, it’s where Barack Obama, Jeff Bezos, and the French Ambassador call home.
On this tour, we’ll wander past some of the city’s most stunning pre-war architecture—Beaux Arts, French Renaissance Revival, even the flamboyant Churrigueresque—and hear stories that bring these blocks to life. Did you know one of WWII’s most important espionage events unfolded right here in Kalorama? That’s just one of the many surprises waiting for you.
Your guide, Joseph Himali, is a storyteller, real estate agent, and the voice behind @bestaddress on Instagram, YouTube and…
